Cool recipe for cooking beans.?
I've got two lbs. of green and yellow beans - how can I cook them for dinner? I'm not a great chef so I don't have all kinds of cool ingredients laying around. Just want to try something different than just steaming them.
Well, lets see, do you have any bacon and an onion?
1. cut the tips off your beans, and wash them good.
2. cook 3-4 strips of bacon on med. heat and save 3-4 Tbsp. of the drippings in the bottom of the pan. Chop up the bacon after its cooked, its easier.
3. add a thinly sliced onion and beans to the bacon drippings (and separate rings).
4. toss the beans and onions around in the bacon drippings with a spatula to coat them.
5. after the onions have softened, add a cup of hot water, cover and let continue to cook for about 15-20 min.
6. Once the beans are done, drain the remaining water off
and the bacon drippings will go with the water.
7. return to the stove and add some salt and pepper, chopped bacon and toss,
serve.
The beans will have taken on the flavor of the bacon and onions, but won't be greasy. I've done it this way for 30 years and they always come out delicious.
